TBC Men vs. Boys

On Sunday, Temple Bible Church had a men vs. boys flag football tournament. I had no idea what to expect. I figured there would be a few teams out there and maybe a few sweet wives who would be there to cheer on their husbands. I was WRONG! There were 12 teams and a ton of families and fans there to watch the big event. I took Buddy because I knew he'd love being outside and watching Travis play. Thankfully, there were lots of little boys there that wanted to play with him. They ran him around the track at least 9 or 10 times, and Buddy was LOVING it! He even played soccer with them! I was so impressed!
As far as the actual football games went, Travis had a good time and played really well. (even made a touchdown or two!) They won their first game (which was good since he was playing against his little brother Dylan's team) but I think that was the end of their winning streak. Today is Wednesday and Travis is still VERY sore and thinks he may have cracked a rib...I thought I was going to have to push him out of bed this morning. I guess that's what happens when you start playing for the "men's" team! (Some of our friends were worse off than Travis though...Lee apparently screwed up his knee pretty bad and may have to have surgery! Travis wanted to make sure that I gave him a blog "shout out.")

Baby Stuff!

On Saturday, Travis and I decided to head down to Austin to start a baby registry at Babies R' Us. I knew they had a huge selection, so I wanted to check it out. Travis was a trooper...I know he thought it was silly that we had to go to Austin to do this, but Temple doesn't have too many options to choose from...so he agreed. (It was helpful that we were going to get to visit and have lunch with Dave- Trav's good friend and roommate from UT)

We had fun finding stuff for our baby boy. We were pretty clueless about what we needed, but I guess that was part of the fun! I was in charge of pointing and Trav was in charge of scanning. (Some of you may remember that he was banned from the scanners during our wedding registry due to the fact that he flung one across Dillard's as he was pretending that it was a gun...but I decided that since he's had a few years to grow up a little more, he should get another chance.) We found furniture, a high chair, a pack n' play and a travel system that we really liked. We tried to be smart and go with neutral colors so that we could reuse some of it in the future if we needed to. We also registered for some smaller items at Target since it is more conveniently located in Temple. It was so exciting to think about using all of the fun baby things!! I can't wait! Thanksgiving day will be 22 weeks. :) Only 18 more to go....

November Supper Club

Thank you to Blake and Jenn for opening up your amazing newly remodeled home for our November supper club! Travis and I had a blast. The food was SO yummy- don't forget to send recipes. :)

This was an extra fun supper club because Jenn and Blake and Rachel and Patrick got new bloodhound puppies that day!!! Between the puppies and the little girls, we were extremely entertained. (Sorry about the Tech game though Kayla! I know you were a little superstitious about watching the game in a different place...haha)

Drumroll Please....................

IT'S A BOY!!!!!! We are so thrilled to finally know that this precious little baby that has been growing inside of me for almost 5 months is a BOY. He actually has an identity now which is so exciting. Travis was pretty shocked because he was certain that it was a girl, but of course, I knew all along. :) While the technician was zooming in all of the little parts of the baby to measure them, Travis was watching very closely over her shoulder. She was impressed that he could tell what she was looking at and knew the names of all the body parts and bones. I couldn't watch because she had the screen facing her so that she could see everything that she needed to see, so I just watched their faces. It felt pretty wonderful to see Travis smiling and to hear the technician tell me that everything was beautiful and perfect and that our little man was already quite photogenic. At one point, Travis looked at me and mouthed "I think it's a boy!" Sure enough, he was right!

He's already too big to fit in one shot, so there are several pictures with different parts of his body. My very favorite one is a shot of his tiny feet! They are adorable!!

I bet you can guess which picture is Trav's favorite....he is a proud daddy, and this baby is not shy!

The doctor came in and said everything looked perfect. From the measurements, they predicted that he weighs about 13oz. They didn't find anything abnormal, and he has all of the parts that he's supposed to have....that is always good to hear! The heartbeat was 138 beats per minute and his 4 little chambers were just pumping away. He also had the hiccups the whole time! It was so surreal because I could feel them and I was watching them on the screen at the same time. :) So far, I seriously love being pregnant. I can't wait to meet this little boy though.

Now the fun part begins- picking out all of the cute boy things that we "must have." I'm so excited that I can narrow my focus now and stop going back and forth between pink things and blue things. We also need to decide on a name. We thought that we were set on one, but now that we really know it's a boy, we're still leaving our options open. I guess there is no rush...at least I can say "him" now instead of just "it."

Thank you to all of you who were thinking and praying for us! We feel so blessed- God is good!

Half way there!

Tomorrow marks 20 weeks for our teeny tiny Anthony baby. Everyone said that 20 weeks was when I would really start showing and sure enough, this has definitely been the week for the tummy! Our babycenter email said that the baby is about the length of a banana! (and that's not even including the legs) I have been feeling flutters for a week or so which has been really fun.

Last week after my doctors appointment, I finally told my students about the baby. They are THRILLED! I could not have imagined that they would be this excited about it. They ask me about the baby constantly, they tell the baby goodbye before they go home in the afternoons, and today, a few of them were even trying to listen to my tummy to see if they could hear the baby. :) (I know that would really bother some people, but I guess I'm just used to them being all over me all of the time anyway, and I think it's sweet!)

Tomorrow afternoon is our big ultrasound appointment where we will hopefully find out blue or pink. I have been SO anxious and excited for this day for so long, and now I am worried that this little one is going to play games and not cooperate with us! I probably will not sleep much tonight, but I don't even care. I can't wait!

Baylor Homecoming 2008/ Opening Weekend for Deer Season

The first weekend of November was a BIG one at our house! Travis was off to hunt in San Saba with my dad for opening weekend, and I got to go with my dear (also pregnant) friend Elizabeth to celebrate Baylor Homecoming with our old roomies at George's in Waco!!! We had a BLAST. I hadn't seen Claire and Aryn in SO long, so I'm so glad we were all able to get together. Hopefully I'll get to do it again next year!!!

The fun of the weekend quickly changed to worry when I talked to Travis that Saturday night and found out that he was not feeling well and he had a spot on his lip that had somehow gotten infected...REALLY infected! By the time he came home on Sunday, half of his face was swollen and red and it did not look very good at all. :( On top of that, his elbow was starting to get red and swollen too!

To make a very LONG story short, we ended up in the ER. They had to drain the infection in Travis' face and it was a very painful process. He was pretty sick for a few days, and we later found out that he had a systemic infection in his body which could have been extremely dangerous. As soon as his face started healing, his elbow got much worse. Finally, after a rough week on antibiotics and Vicodin, Travis' body was able to heal up for the most part.

After his "operation"...he was getting a pretty big kick out of the drugs at this point...he wanted them to give him another shot so that it would last longer! :)
