Calm after the storm...

Friday night we had some thunderstorms roll through. It actually started hailing while I was driving!! As soon as I finally figured out that the people behind me were NOT throwing things at me, I found a safe place to "hide" at a gas station. On my way home, I saw the biggest rainbow ever! It was amazing and it brought me great joy. :) (the man beside me was laughing at me....so I think I brought him great joy as well...)

What have we been up to?

Celebrating at Cheeves, Bible study with great friends, Crawfish Boil at Wildflower, Parade of Homes with the Stahls, studying for tests, watching Colby take more and more steps by himself (I counted 30 steps this weekend), going to the Pitts' house for burgers and great fun (hopefully pictures of the babies playing together coming soon), counting down days of school left until summer (26 and 1/2), giving Colby kisses and high fives, and sleeping when we can. :)
We're doing great! I can't believe Travis is about to finish his first year of medical school...and that our newborn baby has turned into a little boy right before our eyes! Life is good...God is great...we are thankful.

taking steps by hiself!

please notice the hand behind the head...not sure where this came from :)

visiting mommy's school

Last week, Mimsy brought Colby up to school to visit our newly hatched chicks! Luckily, they all came out of it alive...barely. You can tell by Hayli's face that Colby was getting a little rough with those poor babies!!

of course he had to check out the turtles too!

WALKING

It's just the beginning...

loving some "na-na's"

Cadaver Ball

Isn't that a beautiful name for a black tie event?? I was a bit confused at first, but ended up having a great time!! Apparently this is a night put on by 1st year medical students to honor the 2nd year medical students. It was held at the Salado Inn and it was very nice. There was dinner, dancing and awards. Travis was even responsible for handing out some of the awards. I was very proud of him and we had a great time!!

Kevin wrote a hillarious personalized song about the 2nd year med school students

Drinking Problem...

This is what your fridge looks like if you are in medical school...or have an energy drinking problem...

ps...we did not pay for any of these drinks...Travis is "sponsored" by Red Bull and Monster...

"Here Fishy Fishy!"

It seems like just yesterday that I would go out fishing with my dad and grandpa....and my grandpa swore that you could call the fish up..."Here fishy fishy".
I'm not sure if it's true, but it's one of my favorite memories with him. :)
Last week Travis decided to take a day off from school stuff and fish ALL day at Belton Lake with his buddies. I was excited for him to have a fun day to himself and I think he had tons of fun. Here are a few of his trophies!

I don't think he would admit if he caught them with my grandpa's trick...but looks like whatever he did worked!!

Easter Bunny Surprise and swing

After brunch, we came back to our house, and Colby found his Easter Bunny surprises! I don't think he was as excited about his new clothes as I was....oh well! I have a feeling this will happen alot!

While Colby napped, Trav hung up his birthday swing!! He looooves it and it has been so wonderful to have on these nice spring evenings before bedtime.

Easter Sunday Brunch

On Easter Sunday morning we had a special Easter brunch with Travis' parents and Dylan at Wildflower Country Club. My mom was on backup duty since she just lives down the street from there and I was worried Colby would get antsy....and although I can handle being the mom with the screaming baby in the nursery, I CANNOT handle being the mom at Wildflower with the screaming baby during Easter brunch...I'm sorry...

Anyway, Colby was an angel! He was great. He tried all kinds of new foods, including salmon, and loved it all! Oh- except for my chocolate cake- he spit it out!! (are we sure this is my child?!?) Everything was delicious and it's nice to be able to take Colby to his first Easter brunch. Thank you Anthonys!!

"more food, please!"
this is so precious- such a big boy walking with Nona and Pappy
"bye-bye"

church nursery

Well, I don't have any pictures, but Colby had his first (actually 2nd, but that was so long ago I'm not counting it) nursery experience at church on Saturday night during the Easter service. He and Jenna Mae were the first 2 to arrive in the crawlers room, so I was excited they would get to play! The volunteers were so sweet and I was sure that Colby would be just fine. (even though I watched the screen at church during the whole service waiting for our number to come up to tell us they needed us!)
When the service was over, we headed back to the nursery, and the nursery director caught us at the door to tell us that Colby was SO good and had SO much fun until the last 5 minutes. When they picked him up to change his diaper, he started screaming and would not stop. As soon as she said that, I HEARD my baby screaming. I felt so sorry for the volunteers!! I think bedtime combined with teething and new people just sent him over the edge. He didn't even calm down much when we took over....he was just done...and ready for bed!
We're going to make an extra effort to make sure Colby goes to the nursery every week so that he will become a pro. It's just been so easy to drop him off at my parents or leave him with the Anthonys during church, but it's time for this boy to get out more!! :) (this goes back to the whole "don't judge other moms" thing...please don't judge me for having the screaming baby in the nursery!! I promise I'm not a bad mom!! haha)

Happy Birthday Papaw!!

After our Easter lunch and dessert time, we celebrated Papaw's birthday!!

Whoo hoo!!

So glad we got to celebrate together. Happy Birthday Papaw!!! (Can't wait to taste some of your smoked chicken!)

Easter Saturday

Easter Saturday was so perfect! We headed to my parents house around noon (after I salvaged my potato soup that was supposed to be mashed potatoes) and enjoyed the gorgeous weather outside while all of the fam arrived. It was soooooooooo nice and stressless to just hang out, play on the lawn, watch the kids dye Easter eggs, share Easter goodies, hunt eggs, and catch up with everyone.

The Dawkins family brought their newest member, Callie Mae!!!!
Colby LOVED his new balloon thingy from his Mamaw
He played with it forever....it was hilarious
Jayci and Jackson did a GREAT job dying the Easter eggs!

My brothers!!

Callie Mae was thirsty

found one!

cracks me up....our Easter Bunny has a sense of humor for sure!!
we tried to get a cousins picture....but out of the 10 I took, I think this is the best one...haha
SWEET puppy!!
hangin out with Pops
playing on a blanket
hunting all around (Jayci and Jackson were SO sweet to share their eggs with Colby. No one asked them to do it, they just put some of theirs in his basket- THANK YOU guys- best cousins ever!!!)
my brother's sweet puppy, Balmer
helping Auntie Debbie pick out a cute Easter towel
reading his new book from the Maceys with Mimsy
by about 1:15, Colby was DONE...he had a bottle in daddy's lap and then was off to bed while the rest of us enjoyed lunch sitting outside in the beautiful weather! It was a GREAT Easter Saturday morning- we couldn't have asked for anything more. An amazing day to celebrate the amazing love of Christ. Thank you Jesus for your unimaginable sacrifice for our lives.
